Okuma OSP Alarm C 3704 - Lube tank flow

Lube tank flow

During the lube motor ON/OFF cycle, no lubrication oil flow for the slideways was detected. The control watches the lubrication oil flow input signal and raises this alarm when flow never appears or never stops as expected.

Common Causes

  • Defective lubrication pump
  • Clogging in the lubrication circuit
  • Breakage of the lubricating oil pipe

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Lubrication oil flow input signal never ON; code 2 = Lubrication oil flow input signal never OFF; code 3 = No XS-axis slideway flow during lube motor ON time and 10 seconds; code 4 = Steady rest flow signal never ON, or XS-axis flow signal never OFF on CAM lathe types; code 5 = Steady rest lubrication oil flow input signal never OFF; code 7 = XS-axis lubrication oil flow input signal never OFF; code 8 = 2nd lubrication oil flow input signal never ON; code 9 = 2nd lubrication oil flow input signal never OFF
  2. 2Read the code: 1 flow signal never ON, 2 flow signal never OFF, 3 no XS-axis slideway flow during lube motor ON time, 4 steady rest or XS-axis flow signal never ON/OFF (type-dependent), 5 steady rest flow signal never OFF, 7 XS-axis flow signal never OFF, 8 second flow signal never ON, 9 second flow signal never OFF.
  3. 3Run a manual lube cycle and watch the lubrication oil flow input on the I/O check screen (NO.25 INPUT bit F iBOF) to see if it changes state.
  4. 4Check the lube tank level and the lubrication pump: a defective lubrication pump is the first probable faulty location.
  5. 5Inspect the lubricating oil pipe for breakage and the metering units for clogging, the other two probable faulty locations.
  6. 6For never-OFF codes, the flow switch is stuck or its wiring is shorted; free or replace the switch.
