Okuma OSP Alarm C 3699 - MCS Linear scale 1 error

MCS Linear scale 1 error

The MCS drive detected illegal data from linear scale 1, a MITUTOYO scale, on the axis named in the object. The code breaks down into scale status bits, a detailed error byte and the scale position data, and the axis is stopped because its feedback cannot be trusted.

Common Causes

  • Failed MITUTOYO linear scale 1 (EEPROM, CPU or photo-electronic error)
  • Scale communication error from cable or connector damage
  • Scale contamination causing read errors
  • Scale over-speed from excessive axis velocity

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XX = Scale status byte: bit7 alarm, bit6 communication error, bit2 communication error (every detection), bit0 alarm-code distinction (1 = alarm inside the MITUTOYO scale).; code YY (XX=88) = Scale error bits: bit7 over speed, bit6 comm error, bit5 EEPROM, bit4 CPU, bit3 capacity, bit2 photo-electron, bit1 digit match, bit0 initialize.; code YY (XX=80) = 43 = MITUTOYO scale no response; 44 = MITUTOYO scale ID error.; code YY (XX=C0) = 00-3F = gateway receive error; 46 = REQ time over error.; code ZZZZ = Scale position data in 2 mm pitch units.
  2. 2Record the XXYYZZZZ code: XX is the scale status byte (bit7 alarm, bit6 communication error, bit0 set means the alarm came from inside the MITUTOYO scale), YY is the detailed error, ZZZZ is the scale position in 2 mm pitch units.
  3. 3When XX is 88, decode the YY bits: bit7 over speed, bit5 EEPROM error, bit4 CPU error, bit3 capacity error, bit2 photo-electron error, bit1 digit match error, bit0 initialize error, to learn what failed inside the scale.
  4. 4When XX is 80, YY 43 means the scale does not respond and 44 means a scale ID error; check the scale cable, connector and wiring for breaks and reseat them.
  5. 5Clean the scale read head and tape if contamination is suspected, then cycle power and see whether the same code returns on that axis.
  6. 6If the error persists with good cabling, replace linear scale 1 (MITUTOYO) as the manual's corrective action directs, then re-establish the axis reference.
