Okuma OSP Alarm C 3698 - MCS Linear scale 1 initialization failure

MCS Linear scale 1 initialization failure

The control failed to initialize Linear scale 1 (MITUTOYO) on the axis shown in the object field. The code field carries the same XXYYZZZZ detail as alarm 0865 MCS Encoder initialize failed.

Common Causes

  • Faulty Linear scale 1 (MITUTOYO)
  • Faulty motor encoder
  • Encoder link cable or connector problem
  • Faulty control base of the inverter unit

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XXYYZZZZ = Same decode as alarm 0865 MCS Encoder initialize failed
  2. 2Note the axis name in the object field and record the XXYYZZZZ code value, which is decoded the same way as alarm 0865 MCS Encoder initialize failed.
  3. 3Lock out the machine and inspect the Linear scale 1 (MITUTOYO) read head and scale tape for coolant, chips or physical damage; clean carefully if contaminated.
  4. 4Check the encoder link cable and connectors between the scale and the inverter unit for damage or poor contact; reseat or swap with a known-good cable.
  5. 5The manual also lists the motor encoder and the inverter unit control base as suspects: swap or substitute these one at a time to isolate the faulty item.
  6. 6If it returns after these checks, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
