Okuma OSP Alarm C 3190 - MCS Independent encoder initialization failure
The MCS drive failed while initializing the independent position encoder for the named axis or spindle. The code shows at which step of the encoder link startup sequence the failure occurred and what kind of error (communication fault, timeout, wrong response, or parameter problem) stopped it.

Okuma OSP Alarm C 3190 - MCS Independent encoder initialization failure
MCS Independent encoder initialization failure
The MCS drive failed while initializing the independent position encoder for the named axis or spindle. The code shows at which step of the encoder link startup sequence the failure occurred and what kind of error (communication fault, timeout, wrong response, or parameter problem) stopped it.
Common Causes
Failed independent position encoder
Damaged encoder link cable or loose connector between encoder and inverter
Faulty inverter unit control board
Incompatible or corrupted encoder parameter/communication data (parameter error codes)
Troubleshooting Steps
1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XX=0 = Failure during reset step; code XX=1 = Failure during net address setting; code XX=2 = Failure requesting basic communication information; code XX=3 = Failure during communication software version change; code XX=4 = Failure acquiring device information; code XX=5 = Failure during parameter change; code XX=6 = Failure at AT mode start; code YY=0 = Communication error; ZZZZ is the encoder link error status
2Read the code: XX is the initialization step where it failed (0 reset, 1 net address setting, 2 basic communication info request, 3 communication version change, 4 device info acquisition, 5 parameter change, 6 AT mode start) and YY is the error type (0 communication error, 1-3 transmission/reception time over, 4 wrong response address, 5 wrong response code, 6 parameter error).
3If YY=6, use ZZZZ to identify the parameter problem (1 too few parameters received, 2 incompatible basic communication info, 3 multi-turn detection range over) and have the encoder parameter data verified/corrected.
4Lock out power and allow the drive to discharge; then reseat the encoder link connectors at the independent encoder and the inverter unit and inspect the cable for damage or coolant ingress.
5If YY=0-3 (communication or timeout), suspect the link path first: swap the encoder link cable with a known-good one before condemning hardware.
6If the link is good, substitute the independent position encoder; the inverter unit control board is the last suspect. If it persists, record the full code and object and contact Okuma service.
