Okuma OSP Alarm C 3191 - MCS Calculated current position lies outside range

MCS Calculated current position lies outside range

The MCS hit an error while computing the APA (absolute position) value for the axis or spindle named in the object field. The computed position went past its valid range, which usually means encoder offset, data file, or mounting problems.

Common Causes

  • Position encoder not properly offset to zero (codes 1 or 3)
  • Defective servo data file (code 4)
  • Loosely mounted motor coupling, encoder with shaft, or ABSO SCALE (codes 5 or 6)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Linear axis divided travel over; code 2 = Overflow converting semi-position from pr to pf; code 3 = Underflow synthesizing axis data; code 4 = Overflow synthesizing axis data; code 5 = Overflow of input values used for hybrid control; code 6 = Overflow during initialization for hybrid control
  2. 2Read the code: 1 linear axis divided travel over, 2 overflow converting semi-position from pr to pf, 3 underflow synthesizing axis data, 4 overflow synthesizing axis data, 5 overflow of hybrid control inputs, 6 overflow during hybrid control initialization.
  3. 3For codes 1 or 3, re-execute the zero offset (origin setting) procedure for the named axis, since the position encoder may not be properly offset to zero.
  4. 4For code 4, reload the correct servo data file for the axis.
  5. 5For codes 5 or 6, lock out and physically check the motor coupling, encoder-with-shaft mounting, or ABSO SCALE mounting for looseness; tighten to spec.
  6. 6If none of the above clears it, the inverter unit control board is suspect; record the alarm details and contact Okuma service.
