Okuma OSP Alarm C 3232 - Load monitor overload

Load monitor overload

The load monitor saw cutting load stay above the first limit level longer than the allowed time on the reported axis or spindle. This is the control protecting the machine from a dull tool or an overly aggressive cut before something breaks.

Common Causes

  • Cutting tool worn or chipped so it needs far more force to cut
  • Feedrate, spindle speed override or depth of cut increased beyond what the limit allows
  • Workpiece stock larger than the program expects (oversize blank or hard spot)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code YY=00 = Overload detected on the Z axis; code YY=01 = Overload detected on the X axis; code YY=02 = Overload detected on the C axis; code YY=03 = Overload detected on the main spindle; code YY=04 = Overload detected on the M axis; code YY=05 = Overload detected on the W axis; code YY=06 = Overload detected on the sub spindle; code XX = Part number in hexadecimal where the overload occurred
  2. 2Read the code: YY tells you which member tripped (00 Z axis, 01 X axis, 02 C axis, 03 main spindle, 04 M axis, 05 W axis, 06 sub spindle) and XX is the part number.
  3. 3Inspect the cutting tool edge on that operation for wear, chipping or built-up edge and replace or index the insert.
  4. 4Reduce the feedrate or depth of cut, or remove the override increase, and rerun the same block while watching the load meter.
  5. 5Check the raw workpiece stock size and hardness against what the program assumes; a heavy or hard blank needs lighter cuts.
  6. 6If loads stay high with a new tool and conservative cutting data, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
