Okuma OSP Alarm C 3682 - Magnetic encoder speed detection error

Magnetic encoder speed detection error

On the axis named in the object, the control continuously saw an excessive gap between the speed feedback value and the current frequency reported by the magnetic encoder. This means the encoder's speed signal no longer tracks what the drive is commanding, indicating a failed encoder.

Common Causes

  • Faulty magnetic encoder on the indicated axis

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XXXXYYYY = XXXX is the commanded speed reference value and YYYY is the speed value actually detected by the magnetic encoder; a large difference between them indicates the encoder feedback is wrong.
  2. 2Read the code on screen: the first half (XXXX) is the speed reference value and the second half (YYYY) is the speed value the encoder actually detected; a large mismatch confirms the encoder is not tracking.
  3. 3Note the axis named in the alarm object to identify which magnetic encoder is at fault.
  4. 4Before replacing, power down and check the encoder's mounting and connector for looseness or contamination that could corrupt the signal.
  5. 5Replace the magnetic encoder on that axis, per the manual's corrective action.
  6. 6If the alarm returns with a new encoder, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
