Okuma OSP Alarm C 3196 - MCS Full abso scale link error

MCS Full abso scale link error

A communication error occurred on the full absolute scale link for the axis or spindle named in the object. The ZZZZ code bits identify the exact communication fault, such as CRC error, format error, parity error or time-out on the encoder link.

Common Causes

  • Full ABSOSCALE unit failure
  • Encoder link cable or connector fault
  • Inverter unit control board problem
  • Noise on the encoder communication link

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code bit15 = Communication error generated by independent encoder.; code bit14 = Communication error generated by ABSOSCALE 2.; code bit13 = Communication error generated by ABSOSCALE or axis-mount encoder.; code bit12 = Communication error generated by monitor encoder.; code bit10 = AT mode transmission loop error.; code bit9 = Excessive number of data counts at the receiving interface.; code bit6 = Modulation code error.; code bit5 = CRC error.
  2. 2Read the ZZZZ code bits: bit15 independent encoder error, bit14 ABSOSCALE 2 error, bit13 ABSOSCALE/axis-mount encoder error, bit12 monitor encoder error, bit10 AT mode transmission loop error, bit9 excessive data counts at receiver; bits 6-0 give modulation code, CRC, format, double transmission, double reception, parity and time-out errors.
  3. 3Use the high bits to find which device on the link reported the error, then inspect the encoder link cable and connectors to that device for damage, oil or loose pins.
  4. 4Check cable routing for noise exposure; route the encoder link cable away from motor power cables and ensure shielding is properly grounded.
  5. 5Swap the encoder link cable with a known-good cable, then cycle power and watch whether the same code bits return.
  6. 6If errors persist, substitute the full ABSOSCALE unit; if still unresolved, have the inverter unit control board checked or exchanged and then re-home the axis.
