Okuma OSP Alarm A 1856 - Circuit breaker tripped

Circuit breaker tripped

The control detected that a circuit breaker protecting the loader has tripped. This means the circuit fed by that breaker has drawn excessive current, almost always because of a short circuit somewhere in the loader wiring or a connected device.

Common Causes

  • Short circuit in the loader wiring fed by the tripped breaker (chafed or pinched cable, damaged insulation)
  • Shorted loader component on that circuit such as a motor, solenoid valve coil, or sensor
  • Moisture, coolant, or metal chips causing a short inside a connector or terminal block on the loader
  • Failed circuit breaker itself tripping below its rated current

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Do not simply reset and re-close the loader circuit breaker; a tripped breaker indicates a short, and repeatedly re-energizing can damage wiring or cause a fire. Lock out the main power before inspecting.
  2. 2Identify which breaker tripped on the loader and trace the circuit it feeds, then visually inspect that wiring run for chafed insulation, pinched cables, coolant ingress, or metal chips at connectors and terminal blocks.
  3. 3With power locked out, disconnect the loads on that circuit one at a time (loader motors, solenoid coils, sensors) and megger or continuity-check each leg to ground to isolate the shorted component or cable section.
  4. 4Repair or replace the shorted cable section or component found, then re-close the breaker and verify the loader circuit holds under load.
  5. 5If no short is found in the wiring or loads and the breaker still trips, replace the breaker itself; if the alarm returns after these checks, record the alarm number and contact Okuma service.
