Okuma OSP Alarm A 1703 - EC circuit breaker

EC circuit breaker

The control has detected that a circuit breaker in the EC (electrical cabinet) control circuit has tripped, confirmed by I/O check No.24 input bit 9 (iCBA/) reading 0. This means a power circuit feeding the EC has been interrupted, most likely due to a short, and the affected breaker must be identified and reset after the cause is cleared.

Common Causes

  • A short circuit in an EC power circuit tripping the breaker
  • Overloaded or damaged component on the circuit protected by the tripped breaker
  • Wiring fault (chafed insulation, loose terminal) downstream of the breaker

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code None = An EC circuit breaker is tripped (unspecified); code 1 = The 1st EC circuit breaker is tripped; code 2 = The 2nd EC circuit breaker is tripped; code 3 = The 3rd EC circuit breaker is tripped; code 4 = The 4th EC circuit breaker is tripped; code 5 = The 5th EC circuit breaker is tripped; code 6 = The 6th EC circuit breaker is tripped; code 7 = The 7th EC circuit breaker is tripped
  2. 2Read the alarm code on screen to identify which breaker tripped: Code 1 = 1st EC breaker, Code 2 = 2nd, and so on through Code 9; no code means the EC breaker generally.
  3. 3Lock out the main power before opening the electrical cabinet, then locate the tripped breaker indicated by the code.
  4. 4Before resetting, inspect the circuit that breaker feeds for signs of a short: burnt smell, discolored terminals, chafed wires, or a failed component.
  5. 5Correct the short or wiring fault found; do not simply re-close a breaker onto a shorted circuit.
  6. 6Turn the EC circuit breaker back on and verify the alarm clears and I/O check No.24 bit 9 (iCBA/) returns to 1.
  7. 7If the breaker trips again immediately or no fault is found, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
