Okuma OSP Alarm A 1472 - Stroke end over XS-axis

Stroke end over XS-axis

The control detected that the Xs-axis (the cam axis) has run onto its emergency travel-end limit switch, either in the positive or negative direction. This means the axis has physically traveled past its allowable stroke, typically because the soft-limit was set outside the range protected by the hardware limit switch.

Common Causes

  • Xs-axis soft-limit set beyond the stroke range guarded by the emergency limit switch, so the software never stopped the axis before it hit the hardware limit
  • Programmed or jogged move commanded the cam axis past its travel end
  • Incorrect soft-limit parameter values entered after setup or axis work

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Xs-axis hit the emergency limit switch at the positive travel end; code 2 = Xs-axis hit the emergency limit switch at the negative travel end
  2. 2Read the code on the alarm screen: Code 1 means the Xs-axis hit the positive-direction emergency limit, Code 2 means the negative-direction limit — note which end the axis is on before moving it.
  3. 3Select manual mode, then hold down the Xs-axis emergency limit release button at the side of the operation panel while resetting the NC to clear the alarm state.
  4. 4While still holding the emergency limit release button, press the Xs-axis fog button; the control will automatically position the Xs-axis back inside the allowable travel range.
  5. 5Verify the axis is now off the limit switch and moves freely in manual mode within its normal stroke.
  6. 6Correct the Xs-axis soft-limit settings so they sit inside the range protected by the travel limit switch, then test by jogging the axis toward each end and confirming the soft-limit stops it before the hardware switch.
  7. 7If the axis overtravels again after the soft-limits are corrected, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
