Okuma OSP Alarm A 1480 - DIFF over XS-axis

DIFF over XS-axis

The follow-up (following) error of the Xs-axis (cam axis) exceeded the allowable limit: the actual position lagged the commanded position by more than permitted. This is caused by mechanical problems on the axis rather than the command itself.

Common Causes

  • Large slide resistance on the Xs-axis (poor lubrication, tight gibs)
  • Collision of the turret or tooling
  • Mechanical damage or binding in the Xs-axis drivetrain
  • Swarf packed in the slideways raising friction

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code hex value = Hexadecimal of follow-up error in 0.2 us units.
  2. 2Read the code: it is the hexadecimal of the follow-up error in 0.2 us units, so note how far the Xs-axis lagged.
  3. 3Inspect the Xs-axis slideways for large slide resistance: clean out swarf, check lubrication delivery to the ways, and verify gibs are not over-tightened.
  4. 4Look for evidence of a turret collision or tooling interference on the Xs-axis; repair any mechanical damage found.
  5. 5Remove the cause of the mechanical problems and reduce the slide resistance as the manual directs.
  6. 6Jog the Xs-axis through its travel and confirm smooth, even resistance, then re-run the cam cycle and verify the follow-up error stays within limit.
