Okuma OSP Alarm A 1513 - Unable to clamp workpiece

Unable to clamp workpiece

During a chuck clamp command the chuck traveled to its open/close limit without ever clamping a workpiece. The control detected that the clamp command was executed with no work in the chuck.

Common Causes

  • Chuck clamp command issued with no workpiece loaded in the chuck
  • Workpiece too small or mis-seated so the jaws reach the clamp limit without gripping it

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Open the chuck and confirm a workpiece of the correct diameter is properly seated against the chuck jaws or stop.
  2. 2Reload or re-seat the workpiece so the jaws contact it before reaching the clamp limit stroke.
  3. 3Re-issue the chuck clamp command with the workpiece in place and verify clamp confirmation is reached.
  4. 4If the alarm recurs with a correctly seated workpiece, record the alarm number and object (spindle) and contact Okuma service.
