Okuma OSP Alarm A 1682 - Magnetic encoder speed detection error

Magnetic encoder speed detection error

On the axis named in the object, the speed feedback value from the magnetic encoder persistently disagreed with the commanded current frequency by an excessive amount. The drive cannot trust the speed feedback, so the axis is stopped.

Common Causes

  • Failed magnetic encoder
  • Magnetic encoder air gap or mounting out of specification
  • Encoder cable or connector fault corrupting the feedback signal
  • Contamination on the magnetic encoder ring or read head

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XXXX = Speed reference value (2 bytes).; code YYYY = Speed detect value (2 bytes).
  2. 2Read the code: XXXX is the speed reference value and YYYY is the detected speed value; a large constant gap between them confirms the feedback is not tracking the command.
  3. 3Inspect the magnetic encoder and its mounting on the named axis: check the air gap, look for physical damage, and clean any metallic debris or coolant from the magnetic ring and read head.
  4. 4Check the encoder cable and connector for damage or looseness and reseat or replace the cable.
  5. 5If the error remains after mechanical and cable checks, replace the magnetic encoder as the manual's corrective action directs, then re-home the axis and verify speed tracking.
