Okuma OSP Alarm A 1685 - MCS Rotary encoder 4 initialization failure

MCS Rotary encoder 4 initialization failure

The control failed to initialize rotary encoder 4 (HEIDENHAIN type) on the named axis. The encoder did not complete its startup handshake, so the axis has no valid position feedback.

Common Causes

  • Failed HEIDENHAIN rotary encoder 4
  • Encoder cable or connector fault blocking startup communication
  • Power supply or wiring issue at the encoder

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Note the axis named in the alarm object to find the affected HEIDENHAIN encoder.
  2. 2Power down and lock out; inspect and reseat the encoder 4 cable and connector, checking for bent pins, damage or contamination.
  3. 3Power up and observe whether the initialization failure returns immediately.
  4. 4If it returns, replace rotary encoder 4 (HEIDENHAIN) per the manual's corrective action.
  5. 5If replacement does not clear the alarm, record the alarm number and axis and contact Okuma service.
