Okuma OSP Alarm A 1695 - MCS Linear scale 3 error

MCS Linear scale 3 error

The MCS drive detected illegal data from linear scale 3, a HEIDENHAIN scale, on the axis named in the object. The scale position data cannot be trusted, so the axis is stopped.

Common Causes

  • Failed HEIDENHAIN linear scale 3 (internal electronics failure)
  • Scale cable or connector fault corrupting the data
  • Scale contamination causing read errors
  • Electrical noise on the scale signal line

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Note the axis from the alarm object and inspect the cable and connector of the HEIDENHAIN linear scale 3 for damage, oil or loose pins; reseat both ends.
  2. 2Clean the scale read head and scale tape if coolant or chips may have contaminated the scanning area, then cycle power and see whether the error returns.
  3. 3Swap the scale cable with a known-good cable to eliminate a wiring fault.
  4. 4Check the cable routing for noise exposure and keep the scale cable away from motor power cables with shielding grounded.
  5. 5If the error persists with good cabling and a clean scale, replace linear scale 3 (HEIDENHAIN) as the manual's corrective action directs, then re-establish the axis reference.
