Okuma OSP Alarm A 1694 - MCS Linear scale 3 initialization failure

MCS Linear scale 3 initialization failure

The MCS failed in initialization of linear scale 3 (HEIDENHAIN) for the axis named in the object field. The scale did not complete its power-up handshake, so position feedback from that scale is unavailable.

Common Causes

  • Failed linear scale 3 (HEIDENHAIN) unit
  • Scale cable or connector problem between the scale and the MCS
  • Scale reader head contamination or damage preventing initialization

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Note which axis is named in the object field, then power down and lock out before touching scale wiring.
  2. 2Inspect the connector at linear scale 3 (HEIDENHAIN) for that axis: reseat it, check for bent pins, coolant ingress, or cable damage.
  3. 3Clean the scale tape and reader head with the approved cleaner; contamination can prevent the initialization handshake.
  4. 4Power up and watch whether initialization completes; if the same axis fails again with good cabling and a clean scale, the corrective action is to change linear scale 3 (HEIDENHAIN) as the manual directs.
  5. 5If the alarm follows a cable swap to another axis, suspect the MCS input channel rather than the scale.
