Okuma OSP Alarm A 1692 - MCS Linear scale 4 initialization failure

MCS Linear scale 4 initialization failure

The MCS drive failed to initialize linear scale 4 (an auxiliary/other scale) on the axis named in the object during power-up. The axis has no valid scale feedback until initialization completes.

Common Causes

  • Failed linear scale 4 unit
  • Scale cable or connector fault preventing the initialization handshake
  • Scale power supply problem from the drive
  • Contamination or damage at the scale read head

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Identify the axis from the alarm object and inspect the cable and connector of linear scale 4 for damage, oil ingress or bent pins; reseat both ends.
  2. 2Cycle power and watch whether the scale initializes; a persistent failure on the same axis points to the scale or its dedicated cable rather than a transient glitch.
  3. 3Swap the scale cable with a known-good cable to rule out a wiring fault before condemning the scale.
  4. 4If wiring is good, replace linear scale 4 with the specified unit as the manual's corrective action directs, then re-establish the axis reference position.
