Okuma OSP Alarm A 1683 - MCS Rotary encoder 5 initialization failure

MCS Rotary encoder 5 initialization failure

The control could not complete initialization of rotary encoder 5 (Others type) on the named axis. The encoder did not respond correctly at power-up, so position feedback for that axis cannot be trusted.

Common Causes

  • Failed rotary encoder 5 (Others)
  • Encoder cable or connector fault preventing communication at startup
  • Supply or wiring problem to the encoder

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Note which axis is named in the alarm object to identify the affected encoder.
  2. 2Power down and lock out; inspect the encoder 5 cable and connector on that axis for looseness, damage or contamination and reseat them.
  3. 3Power up and check whether the initialization failure returns immediately.
  4. 4If it returns, replace rotary encoder 5 (Others) per the manual's corrective action.
  5. 5If a new encoder does not clear the fault, record the alarm number and axis and contact Okuma service.
