Okuma OSP Alarm A 1440 - Steady rest-Tailstock interlock

Steady rest-Tailstock interlock

The control rejected a programmed position for the programmable tailstock or steady rest because it would violate the allowed distance between the two devices, or move them into interference. This is a program-side protection to stop the tailstock and steady rest from colliding on the bed.

Common Causes

  • Programmed tailstock position beyond the maximum allowed tailstock-to-steady-rest distance
  • Programmed tailstock position inside the minimum allowed separation
  • Steady rest move command exceeding the max/min distance to the tailstock
  • A move commanded to a position where steady rest and tailstock physically interfere

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Programmable tailstock position command exceeds the maximum allowed distance between steady rest and tailstock; code 2 = Programmable tailstock position command is below the minimum allowed distance between steady rest and tailstock; code 3 = Steady rest movement command exceeds the maximum distance to the tailstock; code 4 = Steady rest movement command exceeds the minimum distance to the tailstock; code 5 = A move was started toward a position where steady rest and tailstock would interfere
  2. 2Read the code on screen to identify which limit was violated (1/2 = tailstock command over max/under min distance; 3/4 = steady rest command over max/under min distance; 5 = move into an interfering position).
  3. 3Check the commanded position in the program for the tailstock or steady rest against the actual machine setup (workpiece length, steady rest location on the bed).
  4. 4Correct the commanded position to a value within the permitted distance between steady rest and tailstock, as the manual directs.
  5. 5If the steady rest was repositioned on the bed, verify the program still reflects its new location before rerunning.
  6. 6If the alarm persists with a correct command, record the alarm number and code and contact Okuma service.
