Okuma OSP Alarm A 1198 - MCS Full abso scale initialization failure

MCS Full abso scale initialization failure

The control failed to initialize the full absolute scale/encoder link for the named axis at power-up. The axis position cannot be established, so the machine cannot run until the encoder link initializes correctly.

Common Causes

  • Faulty full absolute scale
  • Damaged encoder link cables or loose connectors
  • Faulty inverter unit control board
  • Failed encoder fuse voltage (out of the 10.6–13.8 V normal range)

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XX=0-6 = Encoder link sequence step at failure: 0 reset, 1 network address setting, 2 basic communication info request, 3 communication version change, 4 device info acquisition, 5 parameter change, 6 AT mode start; code YY=0 = Communication error; ZZZZ shows encoder link error status C2ERR; code YY=1/2/3 = Transmission start, transmission finish, or reception finish time-over; ZZZZ shows transferred frame info QC2MTINF; code YY=4 = Abnormal response address; ZZZZ shows the responding device's network address; code YY=5 = Abnormal response code; ZZZZ shows received frame info QC2RXINF; code YY=6 = Parameter error; ZZZZ = 1 missing parameters, 2 incompatible basic communication info, 3 multi-rotation detection range mismatch; code XXXX=$FFFF = Encoder fuse voltage failure; ZZZZ is the measured voltage (normal 10.6–13.8 V)
  2. 2Record the full XXYYZZZZ code. XX shows which encoder-link sequence step failed (0 reset, 1 network address setting, 2 basic communication info request, 3 communication version change, 4 device info acquisition, 5 parameter change, 6 AT mode start).
  3. 3Read YY for the error type: 0 communication error, 1/2/3 transmission or reception time-over, 4 abnormal response address, 5 abnormal response code, 6 parameter error.
  4. 4Special case: if XXXX reads $FFFF, the encoder fuse voltage has failed and ZZZZ shows the measured voltage ($9980 ≈ 12 V; normal 10.6–13.8 V, permissible $8800–$B000) — check the encoder fuse and its supply first.
  5. 5If YY=6, ZZZZ identifies the parameter problem: 1 = not all required parameters received, 2 = basic communication info incompatible, 3 = multi-rotation detection range mismatch.
  6. 6Power down and lock out, then inspect the encoder link cables and connectors between the full absolute scale and the control for damage, contamination, or looseness; reseat them.
  7. 7If cables and connectors are good, suspect the full absolute scale itself or the inverter unit control board; record the alarm number, code, and axis and contact Okuma service.
