Fanuc 590 - Spindle magazine error

SPINDLE MAGAZINE ERROR

Fanuc spindle alarm 590: SPINDLE MAGAZINE ERROR. The spindle drive or spindle motor has detected a fault condition that requires diagnosis before spindle operation can resume.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 590 SPINDLE MAGAZINE ERROR indicates a communication or feedback fault between the spindle amplifier and the CNC control regarding the spindle parameter set or configuration data stored in the amplifier's memory. This alarm typically occurs when the spindle amplifier cannot properly read or verify its stored parameter magazine/data set, often due to corrupted parameters, battery backup failure, or amplifier hardware issues.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power cycle the entire system (control and spindle drive) and observe if alarm clears on restart.

  2. 2

Access the spindle parameter screen and verify the spindle motor code and magazine number match the actual installed motor (check parameters 4001, 4002, and 4131).

  3. 3

Re-initialize the spindle parameters by reloading from a known good backup or re-entering the motor nameplate data and spindle specification parameters.

Backup all parameters before re-initialization. Incorrect spindle parameters can cause motor damage or runaway conditions.

  4. 4

Execute the spindle parameter magazine write command from the spindle amplifier setup screen to store parameters to amplifier memory, then cycle power and test.
