Fanuc 592 - Spindle indexer error

SPINDLE INDEXER ERROR

Fanuc spindle alarm 592: SPINDLE INDEXER ERROR. The spindle drive or spindle motor has detected a fault condition that requires diagnosis before spindle operation can resume.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 592 occurs when the spindle fails to orient or index to the commanded angular position within the allowed time or position tolerance. This is typically caused by mechanical issues preventing proper orientation, encoder feedback problems preventing position confirmation, or incorrect orientation parameters in the spindle drive.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Check the spindle orientation position coder (encoder) cable connections at both the motor and drive end for loose or damaged connectors.

  2. 2

Verify encoder signals by observing spindle position feedback on the diagnostic screen (POSITION or SERVO MONITOR display) while manually rotating the spindle.

Lock out spindle start and confirm machine is in safe state before manual rotation

  3. 3

Inspect the position coder alignment and mounting on the spindle motor. Check for mechanical damage, contamination, or gap issues between sensor and target.

  4. 4

Replace the position coder cable or encoder unit if signals are intermittent or absent after confirming mechanical alignment is correct.
