Fanuc 598 - Spindle measurement cycle error
Alarm 598 occurs when the spindle motor or drive fails to complete a measurement or calibration cycle, typically during power-up initialization, after parameter changes, or during load meter calibration. This alarm indicates the system could not establish proper communication with the spindle encoder, failed to complete position/speed verification, or detected abnormal feedback during the measurement sequence.

SPINDLE MEASUREMENT CYCLE ERROR
Fanuc spindle alarm 598: SPINDLE MEASUREMENT CYCLE ERROR. The spindle drive or spindle motor has detected a fault condition that requires diagnosis before spindle operation can resume.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 598 occurs when the spindle motor or drive fails to complete a measurement or calibration cycle, typically during power-up initialization, after parameter changes, or during load meter calibration. This alarm indicates the system could not establish proper communication with the spindle encoder, failed to complete position/speed verification, or detected abnormal feedback during the measurement sequence.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Check spindle encoder cable connections at both the motor and drive ends. Look for loose connectors, bent pins, or signs of cable damage.
Disconnect power before inspecting encoder connections to prevent damage to encoder circuitry.
Monitor encoder signals on the spindle drive diagnostics screen during a manual spindle rotation. Verify A, B, and Z pulse signals are present and stable.
Inspect the encoder itself for contamination, oil ingress, or mechanical damage. Clean with approved electronics cleaner if contaminated.
If encoder signals are absent or erratic, replace the spindle encoder and perform a new measurement cycle via parameter 3732 or power cycle sequence.
