Siemens 301701 - Axis drive limit value for safe velocity too large

Axis drive limit value for safe velocity too large

Booting has been interrupted. The pulses remain disabled. Request: In monitoring cycle. The limit value of the safe velocity exceeds the velocity corresponding to a limit frequency of 200 kHz (300 kHz for 840D with SW4.2 and higher and for 840C with SW6.1 and higher). The max. permissible speed that can be monitored is determined as follows: nmax[rev/min] = (200000[Hz] * 60) / encoder marks value Monitoring condition: Modify MD 1331: $MD_SAFE_VELO_LIMIT[n] <= (1 / ue) * nmax Control reaction: Mode group not ready. Channel not ready. NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm occurs when the limit value for safe velocity exceeds the maximum permissible speed corresponding to the system's limit frequency. It can be resolved by adjusting the velocity settings or program parameters.

Safety

  • Drive/power/encoder circuit: hazardous voltages may remain in the DC link after power-off. Lock out / tag out, wait for discharge per the drive documentation, and use qualified personnel only.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check alarm details

Note the axis and drive mentioned in the alarm message to identify the affected component.

  2. 2

    Review velocity settings

Inspect the program or machine data for safe velocity limits and reduce them below the system's maximum frequency threshold.

  3. 3

    Test and restart

Clear the alarm, test the program in simulation mode, and restart if successful.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·If velocity adjustments do not resolve the alarm
  • ·If software/hardware limitations prevent necessary settings

Prevention

  • Always validate velocity limits against manufacturer specifications and safety requirements before programming
  • Use simulation mode with all safety systems active to catch configuration errors
  • Maintain documentation of approved velocity limits for each axis
  • Regularly review and update velocity settings when software or hardware changes are made

Common Mistakes

  • Overlooking axis-specific limits in the program
  • Assuming all software versions support the same frequency thresholds
