Siemens 301705 - Axis drive distance-coded scale incorrectly parameterized

Axis drive distance-coded scale incorrectly parameterized

When selecting a distance-coded scale (MD 1011.7=1) it is also necessary to configure a length measuring system (MD 1011.4=1). In addition, the MDs 1040, 1041 and 1042 must not be zero or negative Control reaction: Mode group not ready. Channel not ready. NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm occurs when a distance-coded scale is selected (MD 1011.7=1) without configuring a length measuring system (MD 1011.4=1) or when MDs 1040, 1041, and 1042 are zero or negative. Fix by correctly parameterizing the machine data.

Safety

  • Drive/power/encoder circuit: hazardous voltages may remain in the DC link after power-off. Lock out / tag out, wait for discharge per the drive documentation, and use qualified personnel only.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check MD 1011 settings

Verify that MD 1011.7=1 (distance-coded scale) and MD 1011.4=1 (length measuring system) are both set correctly.

  2. 2

    Validate MD 1040-1042

Ensure MD 1040, 1041, and 1042 are not zero or negative; set appropriate positive values as per machine documentation.

  3. 3

    Reset and test

Save changes, reset the control, and test the program to confirm the alarm is cleared.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·If machine data changes do not resolve the alarm
  • ·If unsure about correct MD values for the specific machine

Prevention

  • Always verify machine data settings before running programs with scale configurations
  • Refer to machine documentation for correct MD values

Common Mistakes

  • Overlooking MD 1011.4 setting for length measuring system
  • Setting MD 1040-1042 to invalid values
