Siemens 3000 - Emergency stop

Emergency stop

Control reaction: NC not ready. Mode group not ready, also effective for single axes. NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm. Alarm reaction delay is cancelled.

Root Cause Summary

SINUMERIK alarm 3000 occurs when the feed override value drops to 0%, halting all axis motion. This typically results from operator panel input, hardware failure in the override potentiometer circuit, or PLC logic forcing the override to zero through interface signals.

Safety

  • Emergency-stop circuit: only qualified personnel may diagnose and reset. Remove the physical E-stop cause before acknowledging via the PLC/NCK interface; verify the E-stop chain after any work (lockout/tagout).

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Physical Override Controls

Inspect the machine control panel feed override rotary switch or potentiometer. Verify it's not in the 0% position and rotate through its range to check for mechanical binding.

On older SINUMERIK systems, the override pot can develop dead spots - rotate slowly and feel for mechanical resistance.

  2. 2

    Verify HMI Override Display

Access HMI screen 'Machine' → 'Override' and check the feed override percentage display. Use the HMI controls to increase override above 0%.

Ensure machine is in a safe state before increasing feed override as motion will resume immediately.

  3. 3

    Test Override Response

Gradually increase feed override to 10-20% and verify the alarm clears. Test override functionality through full range (0-120%) to confirm proper operation.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·NCK analog input module replacement required
  • ·PLC program modification needed
  • ·Safety system integration issues

Prevention

  • Regular calibration of override potentiometers
  • Periodic cleaning of control panel contacts
  • Monitor analog input signal quality during PM

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring safety interlocks that cause override restriction
  • Replacing potentiometer without checking analog input module
  • Forcing override through PLC without addressing root cause
