Root Cause Summary

SINUMERIK alarm 300005 triggers when the motor temperature monitoring system detects excessive winding temperature through PTC thermistors or KTY84 sensors. The alarm activates when temperature exceeds the threshold configured in drive parameter P0604 (motor temperature monitoring) or when the temperature sensor circuit fails.

Safety

  • Drive/power/encoder circuit: hazardous voltages may remain in the DC link after power-off. Lock out / tag out, wait for discharge per the drive documentation, and use qualified personnel only.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check drive load monitoring

Navigate to Diagnostics > Drive > Load Monitoring and verify I²t values in r0032 (motor utilization). Values consistently above 100% indicate thermal overload.

Use r0033 (drive utilization) to distinguish between motor and drive thermal stress

  2. 2

    Verify motor duty cycle parameters

Check P0335 (motor rated current) and P0336 (motor maximum current) settings. Compare with actual current values in r0027 (actual current smoothed).

Incorrect P0335 setting can cause premature thermal protection triggering

  3. 3

    Review machining program demands

Analyze part program for excessive feed rates or rapid direction changes. Check axis acceleration limits in MD32300 (max axis acceleration).

Use SINUMERIK Optimize to analyze program thermal load distribution

  4. 4

    Implement thermal management

Reduce feed override, increase dwell times between operations, or modify P1082 (motor temperature model time constant) if motor specifications allow.

Never increase P0604 threshold without motor manufacturer approval

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Insulation resistance below 1MΩ
  • ·Motor replacement required
  • ·Drive parameter corruption
  • ·Cooling system major repairs needed

Prevention

  • Monitor r0032 motor utilization regularly
  • Maintain cooling system filters and fans
  • Perform annual motor insulation testing
  • Use appropriate duty cycle ratings for application

Common Mistakes

  • Bypassing temperature monitoring permanently
  • Setting P0604 threshold too high
  • Ignoring cooling system maintenance
  • Using incorrect motor thermal parameters
