Siemens 300011 - Axis drive hardware version of spindle not supported

Axis drive hardware version of spindle not supported

An old spindle power section (so-called 186-HSA) is connected to the drive bus. This spindle drive is not supported by SINUMERIK 840D. Ramp-up is interrupted Control reaction: NC not ready. The NC switches to follow-up mode. Channel not ready. NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm.

Root Cause Summary

The SINUMERIK 840D controller has detected a 186-HSA legacy spindle power section connected to the drive bus during axis initialization. The 840D NCK firmware does not support this obsolete spindle drive hardware, causing the ramp-up sequence to abort with alarm 300011.

Safety

  • Drive/power/encoder circuit: hazardous voltages may remain in the DC link after power-off. Lock out / tag out, wait for discharge per the drive documentation, and use qualified personnel only.
  • Spindle hazard: ensure the spindle is at standstill before working near it; follow lockout/tagout procedures.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power down the machine and verify the physical spindle power section model number on the drive cabinet. Check the nameplate or part number for '186-HSA' or '186-type' designations.

Do not operate the machine with unsupported spindle hardware. Ramp-up will always fail.

  2. 2

Review the system configuration in Siemens HMI under Diagnostics > Axis/Spindle to confirm which spindle axis triggered the alarm. Cross-reference the axis number with MD20090 (spindle axis assignment) in the NCK parameter menu.

  3. 3

Contact Siemens Field Service to schedule replacement of the 186-HSA spindle power section with a supported 840D-compatible module (e.g., 611U, 630U, or equivalent). Verify compatibility with MD30140 spindle drive type parameter.

  4. 4

After hardware replacement, clear the alarm via PLC diagnostics menu and perform a full NCK ramp-up sequence to verify spindle initialization.
