Siemens 840D 10820 - Channel rotary axis/spindle not defined
Alarm 10820 fires when a revolutional feed (FGROUP or F with spindle reference) is programmed for a contouring/synchronous axis or spindle, but the referenced rotary axis/spindle is not configured in the NCK axis definition table. This occurs because the interpolator cannot resolve the feed calculation without a valid axis reference.
Siemens 840D 10820 - Channel rotary axis/spindle not defined
Channel rotary axis/spindle not defined
Siemens SINUMERIK alarm 10820: Channel rotary axis/spindle not defined. This alarm indicates a fault or error condition on the SINUMERIK 840D control. Refer to the Siemens SINUMERIK alarm documentation for the complete description and remedy.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 10820 fires when a revolutional feed (FGROUP or F with spindle reference) is programmed for a contouring/synchronous axis or spindle, but the referenced rotary axis/spindle is not configured in the NCK axis definition table. This occurs because the interpolator cannot resolve the feed calculation without a valid axis reference.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Access Siemens HMI > Diagnosis > System > Axis list to verify all active axes and spindles. Confirm the referenced axis name from the alarm parameter %2 appears in the configured axis table.
Do not edit axis definitions while machine is in operation or program is running.
Check MD20050 (Names of axes/spindles) and MD20100 (Type of axis, default: linear=1, rotary=2) in the Siemens NCK Parameter Editor. Verify the spindle/rotary axis referenced in the NC program matches exactly (case-sensitive).
If the axis is missing, add it to the axis configuration via HMI > Machine > Axis Configuration. Assign axis type MD20100=2 for rotary axes. Save and restart the NCK.
Configuration changes require a warm restart; some systems may require a cold restart.
Reload the NC program and verify the axis name in the F-word or FGROUP command matches the configured axis name exactly (including spindle index if multiple spindles exist).
