Okuma OSP Alarm A 1309 - Sensor protect

Sensor protect

During gauging, the touch sensor traveled beyond its preset protection distance after making contact, or the turret hit the protection limit without the sensor ever triggering. This protects the touch setter from crash damage.

Common Causes

  • Sensor protection distance (parameter long word No. 24) too small for the gauging feedrate
  • Sensor touched the object outside a gauging cycle (program or operation error)
  • Slip ring contact failure losing the sensor signal
  • Defective sensor element or chatter during machining causing false/missed contact

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Recover first: in MANUAL mode turn ON the emergency limit release switch in the control box, reset the alarm, and jog the turret away from the touch setter with the pulse handle; turn the release switch OFF once clear of the stroke end limit.
  2. 2The code shows which sensor input number tripped - inspect that sensor and its wiring.
  3. 3Check parameter (long word) No. 24: if the protection distance is too small for the gauging feedrate, increase it or lower the gauging feedrate.
  4. 4Verify the program only brings the sensor into contact with the workpiece inside a gauging cycle; correct any contact moves in normal cutting cycles.
  5. 5Check the slip ring for poor contact and test/replace the sensor element if the signal is intermittent or dead.
  6. 6If chatter during machining causes false trips, eliminate the chatter; if it cannot be eliminated, set MC USER PARAMETER (MEASUREMENT) 'Touch setter alarm check ineffect. at retract.' to 1 so contact is monitored only in the gauging cycle.
