Okuma OSP Alarm A 1162 - MCS Winding change failure

MCS Winding change failure

The winding-change magnet switch did not come on for the axis or spindle named in the object field. The motor winding change between low-speed and high-speed coils could not complete, so the requested speed range is unavailable.

Common Causes

  • Winding-change magnet switch failure
  • Magnet contactor for low-speed or high-speed winding stuck on, or both on together
  • Winding change time-out or faulty servo data file

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code YYYY=0000, ZZZZ=0001 = Magnet conductor for low-speed winding is ON; code YYYY=0000, ZZZZ=0002 = Magnet conductor for high-speed winding is ON; code YYYY=0000, ZZZZ=0003 = Magnet conductors for both windings are ON; code YYYY=0000, ZZZZ=0004 = Winding change time-out; code YYYY=1010, ZZZZ=0001 = Faulty servo data file
  2. 2Read the code: with YYYY=0000, ZZZZ=0001 means the low-speed winding magnet conductor is ON, 0002 the high-speed winding conductor is ON, 0003 both conductors are ON, 0004 winding change time-out; with YYYY=1010, ZZZZ=0001 means a faulty servo data file.
  3. 3Lock out and discharge the drive before opening the cabinet, then inspect the winding-change magnet switch and its contactors for welded or pitted contacts.
  4. 4Check that only one winding contactor pulls in at a time; both ON together points to a stuck contactor or wiring fault.
  5. 5For the time-out code, check the contactor coil circuit and the confirmation contacts that tell the drive the change completed.
  6. 6For YYYY=1010, reload the correct servo data file; otherwise replace the winding-change magnet switch as the manual directs.
