Okuma OSP Alarm A 1171 - MCS Resolver alarm

MCS Resolver alarm

The resolver does not send any signal for the axis or spindle named in the object field. With no resolver feedback, the drive cannot commutate the motor, so the axis is disabled.

Common Causes

  • Resolver trouble inside the motor
  • Disconnection of the resolver cable
  • Contact failure of the resolver cable connector

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = Fixed code: resolver sends no signal
  2. 2Note the axis or spindle named in the object field, then lock out power before touching resolver wiring.
  3. 3Check the resolver cable connector at the motor and at the drive for contact failure: reseat it, look for bent pins, coolant, or corrosion.
  4. 4Inspect the resolver cable along its full run for a break or disconnection, especially inside the drag chain.
  5. 5Measure the resolver windings at the motor connector with an ohmmeter and compare against the motor spec; an open winding means resolver trouble.
  6. 6If the cable and connections are good, replace the resolver/motor per the manual's probable faulty locations.
