KUKA Robot KRC0344 - ACKN. BRAKE ERROR <axis number>

ACKN. BRAKE ERROR <axis number>

This alarm indicates a failure in the acknowledgment circuit of the holding brake on the specified axis, preventing proper brake engagement or disengagement verification. The brake acknowledgment signal is not being received by the controller, which is a critical safety function that must be resolved before axis motion can be restored. This typically occurs when the brake solenoid feedback signal fails to confirm brake status within the expected timeframe.

Common Causes

  • Defective brake solenoid or brake coil with open/short circuit condition
  • Broken or disconnected brake feedback sensor/switch wire or connector
  • Faulty brake acknowledgment circuit card or I/O module
  • Contaminated or stuck brake mechanical components preventing proper engagement
  • Damaged cable shielding causing electromagnetic interference on brake feedback signal

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify the brake solenoid connector and feedback signal wire connections are fully seated and show no visible damage or corrosion
  2. 2Use a multimeter to measure continuity and resistance of the brake solenoid coil; replace solenoid if values are out of specification or infinite resistance is found
  3. 3Check the brake acknowledgment sensor/limit switch for proper operation and clean any mechanical debris that may prevent switch actuation
  4. 4Inspect the brake feedback signal cable for breaks, pinches, or exposed conductors; re-route or replace cable if damaged
  5. 5Access the diagnostics menu in the KRC controller to verify the brake feedback signal state in real-time and confirm whether the signal is being received
  6. 6If signal verification fails, test or replace the I/O module responsible for brake acknowledgment circuit; perform a controller parameter reset if module replacement is not necessary
