KRC0346

KUKA Robot KRC0346 - ACKN. OVERVOLTAGE <power module>

ACKN. OVERVOLTAGE <power module>

This alarm indicates that an overvoltage condition has been detected in the acknowledged power module during operation. The voltage has exceeded the safe operating threshold, typically caused by regenerative braking, supply fluctuations, or faulty power conditioning components. The KRC controller has detected this condition and triggered a protective shutdown to prevent damage to the servo drives and power electronics.

Common Causes

  • Excessive regenerative energy from rapid axis deceleration or emergency stops
  • Input mains voltage fluctuation or surge exceeding nominal supply specifications
  • Defective or degraded power module capacitors unable to absorb regenerative energy
  • Faulty voltage monitoring circuit or feedback sensor in the power module
  • Inadequate braking resistor capacity or malfunction preventing energy dissipation

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Check the mains supply voltage at the robot controller input terminals using a multimeter; verify it is within ±10% of rated specification (typically 380-480V 3-phase)
  2. 2Inspect the power module and associated capacitors visually for bulging, leakage, or burn marks indicating component failure
  3. 3Verify the braking resistor is properly connected and functional by measuring its resistance value; ensure it matches the controller specifications
  4. 4Review recent robot program sequences for rapid axis movements or emergency stops that could generate excessive regenerative voltage
  5. 5Reset the controller and clear the alarm code using SafeOP or the teach pendant, then monitor for recurrence during normal operation
  6. 6If the alarm persists, contact KUKA service to perform detailed power module diagnostics or replace the power module assembly if capacitors or internal components are confirmed faulty
