KRC0152

KUKA Robot KRC0152 - Brake error <KPS number> channel <brake channel>

Brake error <KPS number> channel <brake channel>

This alarm indicates a malfunction in the brake system of a specific axis, detected by the KPS (KUKA Power Supply) safety module on the designated brake channel. The brake may not be engaging, disengaging, or responding to control signals properly, which prevents the robot from operating safely.

Common Causes

  • Brake coil winding failure or open circuit in the solenoid
  • Loss of brake supply voltage or power distribution issue on the KPS channel
  • Brake mechanical wear, contamination, or binding that prevents proper engagement/disengagement
  • Defective brake feedback sensor or broken encoder signal on the monitored channel
  • Loose or corroded electrical connectors on the brake harness or KPS terminal blocks

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Check the KPS display and digital inputs to confirm which brake channel has failed and review any secondary fault messages
  2. 2Visually inspect the brake connector, cable routing, and KPS terminal connections for corrosion, damage, or loose pins
  3. 3Measure DC voltage at the brake solenoid connector with a multimeter to verify proper supply voltage is present
  4. 4Test brake mechanical operation by manually moving the axis (if safe and permitted) to detect physical binding or noise indicating internal damage
  5. 5If voltage is present but the brake does not respond, measure solenoid coil resistance with the power disconnected; typical values are 4-10 ohms depending on the axis type
  6. 6Replace the brake assembly or KPS module if all electrical tests pass but the alarm persists; perform a controller reset and safety system reinitialization after repairs
