KUKA Robot KRC0154 - RIO configuration change: controller reboot necessary

RIO configuration change: controller reboot necessary

The RIO (Robot Input Output) configuration has been modified in WorkVisual, and the changes cannot take effect without restarting the KRC4 controller system. A system reboot is mandatory to load the new RIO settings into active memory.

Common Causes

  • New digital or analog input/output signals were added to the RIO configuration in WorkVisual
  • Existing RIO signal mappings or properties were changed such as signal type, address, or polling rate
  • RIO module firmware was updated requiring the controller to reinitialize the RIO communication interface
  • SafeOperation certified RIO signals were modified or new safety-rated signals were configured
  • Network gateway or remote RIO device configuration was altered in the RIO topology

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Save all open KRL programs and pause any active robot tasks before initiating the controller reboot
  2. 2Open the KUKA smartPAD and navigate to the system settings to initiate a controlled system restart
  3. 3Allow the KRC4 controller a minimum of 5 minutes to complete the full boot sequence and RIO module initialization
  4. 4After reboot completes, verify that the RIO signals are properly recognized by checking the I/O status in WorkVisual diagnostics
  5. 5Test each newly configured or modified RIO signal with a simple test program to confirm proper signal acquisition and response
  6. 6If signals remain unresponsive after reboot, verify RIO module firmware compatibility and re-download the RIO configuration from WorkVisual
