KUKA Robot KRC0159 - OPERATING MODE CHANGE

OPERATING MODE CHANGE

This alarm indicates that the mode selector switch on the KUKA KRC controller is positioned in an invalid or intermediate state that does not correspond to a defined operating mode. The controller cannot execute commands when the mode switch is not clearly set to one of the valid positions (T1, T2, or AUT). This typically occurs during mode transitions or when the switch becomes mechanically stuck between positions.

Common Causes

  • Mode selector switch physically stuck or jammed between two positions
  • Worn or damaged mode selector switch contact points causing intermittent recognition
  • Faulty mode selector switch requiring replacement
  • Loose or corroded electrical connections to the mode selector switch
  • Controller firmware issue with mode switch input signal interpretation

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Visually inspect the mode selector switch on the teach pendant or controller cabinet for any obstructions and ensure it moves freely between all three positions (T1, T2, AUT)
  2. 2Cycle the mode selector switch multiple times through all valid positions and verify the alarm clears
  3. 3Check electrical connections and wiring harness to the mode selector switch for corrosion, loose contacts, or damage
  4. 4Test the mode selector switch continuity and resistance values using a multimeter to verify proper electrical function
  5. 5If the switch appears damaged or worn, replace the mode selector switch assembly following KUKA service documentation
  6. 6Clear the alarm and restart the controller to confirm the issue is resolved; if the alarm persists, contact KUKA service support for potential controller diagnostics
