KUKA Robot KRC0156 - PC fan error

PC fan error

The cooling fan in the KRC4 personal computer controller is not operating correctly or is blocked, causing insufficient airflow. Continued operation without resolving this issue will result in thermal damage to CPU, memory, and power supply components.

Common Causes

  • Cooling fan bearing failure or motor malfunction preventing normal fan rotation and airflow
  • Fan intake or exhaust vents are blocked by dust accumulation, debris, or external obstructions in the cabinet
  • Fan connector became loose or disconnected from the KRC4 motherboard power or tachometer signal
  • Thermal paste degradation between CPU and heatsink reduced heat transfer efficiency, overloading the cooling system
  • Fan speed control circuit failed due to capacitor aging or control IC malfunction on the KRC4 board

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Stop all robot programs immediately and allow the KRC4 controller to cool to ambient temperature before proceeding
  2. 2Power off the KRC4 system and remove all external power connections for at least 2 minutes before restarting
  3. 3Visually inspect the fan intake and exhaust openings on the controller cabinet for dust buildup or physical blockages, and clean using compressed air if needed
  4. 4If accessible, check that the fan power connector on the KRC4 motherboard is firmly seated and the fan rotates freely when power is applied
  5. 5Use thermal monitoring diagnostics in WorkVisual to measure CPU temperature; if temperature remains elevated after cooling, replace the cooling fan assembly
  6. 6If problem persists after fan replacement, contact KUKA service to perform thermal imaging inspection and assess potential motherboard damage
