KUKA Robot KRC0157 - Over temperature feedback resistor

Over temperature feedback resistor

The feedback resistor in the joint specified by has exceeded its maximum safe operating temperature, typically due to excessive current draw or prolonged operation without adequate cooling. This thermal protection alarm prevents damage to the resistor network that monitors joint position feedback and motor commutation. The controller will halt motion until the component cools and the alarm is cleared.

Common Causes

  • Excessive joint load or collision causing sustained high motor current
  • Inadequate cooling or blocked ventilation around the drive electronics cabinet
  • Faulty motor winding creating continuous overcurrent condition
  • Defective feedback resistor with degraded thermal characteristics
  • Continuous high-speed operation in rapid mode without sufficient cooldown periods

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Allow the robot controller and affected joint drive electronics to cool naturally for 15-30 minutes before attempting reset
  2. 2Check the joint specified in %1 for mechanical obstructions, excessive friction, or collision damage that may have caused high current draw
  3. 3Verify the drive cabinet cooling fans are operating and air intake/exhaust vents are clear of dust or blockages
  4. 4Inspect the feedback resistor assembly on the motor connector and drive board for visible damage, burn marks, or corrosion
  5. 5Use a multimeter to measure the feedback resistor resistance values against KUKA specifications to identify if the component has failed
  6. 6If alarm persists after cooling, replace the feedback resistor assembly and perform a joint encoder calibration test to verify proper function
