HEIDENHAIN 230-0018 - Position or speed control of axis still active

Position or speed control of axis still active

An attempt was made to activate or deactivate an axis while its position, speed, or current controllers were still running. They must be switched off first.

Root Cause Summary

HEIDENHAIN alarm 230-0018 occurs when attempting to activate or deactivate axis controllers while position, speed, or current control loops are still active. The TNC system requires all control loops to be properly switched off before any controller state changes can be executed.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access axis parameter menu

Navigate to MOD > Machine Parameters > Axes and select the affected axis %2 from the alarm message.

Note the current state of all three controllers before making changes

  2. 2

    Check controller status parameters

Verify parameters P-AXIS-00013 (position controller enable), P-AXIS-00014 (speed controller enable), and P-AXIS-00015 (current controller enable) status.

Do not change parameters while machine is in automatic mode

  3. 3

    Execute proper shutdown sequence

Set position controller to OFF first, wait for confirmation, then speed controller OFF, finally current controller OFF.

Allow 2-3 seconds between each controller shutdown step

  4. 4

    Perform desired activation/deactivation

Now execute the intended controller state change and restart controllers in reverse order: current, speed, then position.

Ensure axis is mechanically secured before reactivating controllers

  • ·Servo system hardware faults detected
  • ·PLC program modifications required

Prevention

  • Always follow proper controller shutdown sequence
  • Ensure programs are fully stopped before controller changes
  • Regularly verify servo parameter settings
  • Train operators on proper mode switching procedures

Common Mistakes

  • Attempting controller changes while program is paused
  • Not waiting for controller confirmation between steps
  • Ignoring PLC status when troubleshooting
  • Changing multiple controller states simultaneously
