230-001B

HEIDENHAIN 230-001B - For a parameter change the drive has to be deactivated (axis)

For a parameter change the drive has to be deactivated (axis)

A parameter or parameter-set change required the drive to be deactivated first, but it was not. The new values were rejected by the control.

Root Cause Summary

The root cause is attempting to modify protected drive or axis parameters while the servo drive is in an active/enabled state. Heidenhain TNC controls enforce strict parameter access control to prevent real-time changes that could cause instability, position loss, or motor damage. The drive must be in a safe, deactivated state before commissioning or configuration parameters can be altered.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Identify Parameter Being Modified

Check the alarm log detail to see which axis (%2) is affected. Note which machine parameter was being accessed - typically MP1xxx (axis-specific), MP3xxx (encoder), or MP4xxx (drive controller) parameters.

The alarm often occurs with parameters like encoder type (MP310x), current controller settings (MP43xx), or position monitoring windows (MP14xx).

  2. 2

    Deactivate Main Voltage

Turn the main voltage switch on the control cabinet to OFF position. Wait for the voltage monitoring display on the TNC screen to show 0V. This fully deactivates all drive amplifiers.

Ensure machine is at a safe position before removing voltage. Note current position if resuming work after parameter change.

  3. 3

    Access Parameter in MOD Mode

Press MOD key, enter password if required (typically 807667), navigate to the specific machine parameter. Make the required change while voltage is off. The parameter will now be accepted without alarm.

Changes to most drive-related MP parameters require a control restart to take effect - note this before proceeding.

  4. 4

    Restore Power and Clear Alarm

Return main voltage switch to ON. Press CE (Clear Error) key to acknowledge alarm 230-001B. Check that all axes show ready status before attempting motion.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter set corruption detected
  • ·Encoder calibration failures persist
  • ·Drive hardware faults indicated

Prevention

  • Always deactivate drives before modifying critical parameters
  • Use parameter backup before making changes
  • Follow proper parameter set switching procedures

Common Mistakes

  • Attempting parameter changes with active drives
  • Not identifying all affected axes during parameter set switches
  • Skipping drive reinitialization after encoder changes
