HEIDENHAIN 230-000F - Drive switched off illegally

Drive switched off illegally

The axis drive turned off unexpectedly without a PLC command. This illegal shutdown can indicate a wiring fault, hardware defect, or safety reaction.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm indicates a mismatch between the TNC's expectation that the drive should be enabled and the actual state of the drive hardware. The drive has been removed from service by an external event, hardware protection, or signal interruption rather than through a commanded shutdown from the NC kernel. The TNC detects this unexpected loss of drive ready status and generates the alarm to prevent uncontrolled motion conditions.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Verify E-Stop and Safety Circuit Status

Check all emergency stop buttons, safety door switches, and light curtains. Ensure all safety devices are reset and closed. Verify the safety relay outputs show continuity to the drive enable inputs.

Do not bypass safety circuits for testing. Always maintain machine safety integrity per EN ISO 13849-1.

  2. 2

    Check PLC Safety Logic

Access MOD > PLC > Monitor and verify M4000-M4015 markers (drive enable status) show active state. Cross-reference with X44 pin assignments in electrical documentation to confirm enable signal path.

On iTNC 530 and TNC 620/640, use the integrated PLC monitor to trace enable signal flow in real-time during fault recreation.

  3. 3

    Measure Enable Signal at Drive

With machine in ready state, measure voltage at drive X44 enable input (typically pins 1-2 for X-axis, consult drive documentation). Should read 24VDC nominal. Loss of this signal causes immediate drive disable.

Use MOD > Test > Position Monitoring to observe exact moment drive ready signal drops when recreating the fault.

DIY Feasiblemedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Drive amplifier hardware replacement needed
  • ·PLC program modifications required
  • ·Main power supply issues identified

Prevention

  • Regular inspection of safety circuit connections
  • Periodic drive amplifier cooling system maintenance
  • Monitor PLC cycle times and communication status
  • Implement power quality monitoring

Common Mistakes

  • Bypassing safety circuits instead of fixing root cause
  • Ignoring drive temperature warnings
  • Restarting without checking PLC program status
  • Not verifying all safety devices before re-enabling drives
