HEIDENHAIN 126-0129 - Automatic switchover in simulation mode DriveSimul

Automatic switchover in simulation mode DriveSimul

The control automatically switched to DriveSimul mode because no controller unit (CC) is present, or because Gen 3 drive components with external safety are used without a PAE module.

Root Cause Summary

The control automatically enters DriveSimul mode when it cannot establish or maintain communication with physical drive hardware. This is a protective measure allowing continued control operation for programming and simulation purposes. The root issue is either intentional simulation activation, hardware communication failure in the drive chain, or missing drive configuration data.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access Simulation Menu

Press MOD key on TNC keyboard, then select 'Simulation' from the menu options.

DriveSimul is distinct from 'Program Run (Full Sequence)' simulation - it simulates at the drive level, not just programmed movements.

  2. 2

    Check DriveSimul Status

In the Simulation menu, verify if 'DriveSimul' checkbox is active (checked). If active and normal machine operation is needed, uncheck this option.

Switching out of DriveSimul mode will re-enable physical axis movement - ensure machine area is clear and axes are properly referenced.

  3. 3

    Exit and Reference Axes

Press END key to exit MOD menu. If switching back to normal operation, perform axis reference run via 'Manual Operation' mode and reference all axes before machining.

After disabling DriveSimul, check that all axes show green 'Referenced' status in the position display before running any programs.

Service Recommendedmedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·CC module replacement required
  • ·PAE safety module installation needed
  • ·TNC software update required
  • ·Safety circuit modifications needed

Prevention

  • Regular backup of machine parameters
  • Periodic verification of drive module connections
  • Maintain compatibility matrix documentation
  • Schedule preventive maintenance for drive components

Common Mistakes

  • Attempting to operate in DriveSimul mode for production
  • Ignoring PAE module requirements for Gen3 drives
  • Not backing up parameters before troubleshooting
  • Mixing drive generations without proper configuration
