126-0132

HEIDENHAIN 126-0132 - Too many HSCI devices connected. Current:; permitted

Too many HSCI devices connected. Current:; permitted

The HSCI bus currently has more connected devices than the firmware allows. The actual count exceeds the permitted maximum.

Root Cause Summary

The control has detected more HSCI-compatible devices (encoders, position measuring systems, or interface modules) than the control model and license permit. This typically results from machine configuration changes, hardware additions without corresponding software licensing, or incorrect device configuration in the control's system files. The control enforces this limit to maintain system performance and match hardware capabilities.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Verify current license configuration

Access MOD > Set-up > Control Info and document the licensed number of axes and encoder interfaces. Compare this with the alarm's permitted value (%2).

The license information shows 'NCK axes' and 'Encoder inputs' separately - both contribute to HSCI device count.

  2. 2

    Count physical HSCI devices

In MOD > System Configuration > Device Configuration, review all detected encoders including linear scales, rotary encoders, angle encoders, and touch probe interfaces. Count all EnDat and 1 Vpp devices.

On TNC 640, check both CC (Component Controller) and UMC (Universal Motion Controller) modules for connected devices.

  3. 3

    Identify excess devices

Determine which encoders or devices exceed the licensed count. Check if any are unused, redundant, or connected for testing purposes that can be removed.

Do not disconnect encoders on live axes without proper machine shutdown and safety lockout procedures.

  4. 4

    Request license upgrade

If all connected devices are required, contact Heidenhain service with your control ID number (from Control Info screen) to purchase additional axis or encoder licenses. Provide current configuration details.

License upgrades are typically delivered as FCL files loaded via TNCopt or SD card - they do not require hardware changes.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Hardware upgrade required
  • ·HSCI bus communication failures persist
  • ·Machine parameter backup corruption

Prevention

  • Always verify HSCI device count before adding new encoders
  • Maintain updated documentation of all HSCI device assignments
  • Use analog encoders for non-critical axes to preserve HSCI capacity

Common Mistakes

  • Counting only encoders and forgetting probes in HSCI device total
  • Installing termination resistors on multiple HSCI devices
  • Not backing up parameters before reconfiguration
