HEIDENHAIN 126-011A - Hardware combination not permitted

Hardware combination not permitted

The detected hardware layout contains an impermissible mix of CC or PL modules. Certain combinations such as CC 6106 with CC 306, or CC 306 with older PLB/MB/TE units, are rejected by the firmware.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm is triggered by the NC kernel's hardware validation routine detecting components that are not authorized to work together in the current system configuration. The most common root cause is mixing hardware from different control generations during service repairs or attempting to use expansion hardware without proper licensing. Hardware compatibility in Heidenhain controls is strictly enforced through part number validation and software licensing mechanisms.

Safety

  • Refer to Heidenhain service manual
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Access hardware identification

Power on into Service Mode by holding MOD key during boot. Navigate to 'System Info' > 'Hardware Configuration'. Document the complete part numbers of the MC board (typically ID: 3x.xxx.xx) and CC unit (typically ID: 5x.xxx.xx).

The first two digits of Heidenhain part numbers indicate the hardware generation: 31x/51x for iTNC 530, 36x/56x for TNC 640, etc.

  2. 2

    Verify hardware pairing

Compare the MC and CC generation codes. For TNC 640, MC must be 36x.xxx series and CC must be 56x.xxx series. For iTNC 530, MC must be 31x.xxx and CC must be 51x.xxx. Cross-generation pairing is never supported.

Do not attempt to force compatibility by modifying system files - this will cause control instability and void warranty

  3. 3

    Replace incompatible component

If mismatch is confirmed, replace the incorrect component with generation-matched hardware. Typically the MC board determines the control generation, so replace the CC unit to match. After replacement, perform a full PLC recompile and control restart.

When ordering replacement hardware, always provide both your current NC software version and the part number of the component it must pair with to ensure Heidenhain ships compatible hardware

Service Recommendedmedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Hardware replacement required
  • ·Firmware updates needed
  • ·Uncertain about component compatibility

Prevention

  • Always verify hardware compatibility before installation
  • Maintain consistent hardware generation levels
  • Keep firmware versions synchronized across all components

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming physical fit equals compatibility
  • Mixing hardware generations without checking compatibility
  • Ignoring firmware version requirements
