FANUC Alarm 9003 - Spindle Serial Communication Error
Alarm 9003 indicates the CNC has lost serial communication with the spindle amplifier module. This is typically caused by connection issues in the serial feedback cable between the CNC and spindle drive, failed amplifier components, or incorrect parameter settings after maintenance.
FANUC Alarm 9003 - Spindle Serial Communication Error
Serial communication between the CNC and the spindle amplifier has been interrupted or lost. The spindle control link is not responding.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 9003 indicates the CNC has lost serial communication with the spindle amplifier module. This is typically caused by connection issues in the serial feedback cable between the CNC and spindle drive, failed amplifier components, or incorrect parameter settings after maintenance.
Causes and Fixes
Power down the machine completely and lock out. Inspect the serial cable connections at both the CNC control board (typically slot JD1A) and the spindle amplifier (JD1B). Look for loose connectors, bent pins, or corrosion.
Always follow LOTO procedures. Verify zero voltage before touching connections.
Disconnect and reconnect both ends of the serial cable firmly. Check connector retention clips are properly engaged.
Inspect the cable itself along its entire length for physical damage, excessive bending near connectors, or signs of wear. Check cable shielding continuity with a multimeter.
Power up the system and observe if alarm clears. If alarm persists, swap the serial cable with a known good spare to eliminate cable as the fault.
