Fanuc 587 - Spindle tool offset error

SPINDLE TOOL OFFSET ERROR

Fanuc spindle alarm 587: SPINDLE TOOL OFFSET ERROR. The spindle drive or spindle motor has detected a fault condition that requires diagnosis before spindle operation can resume.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 587 indicates a mismatch or error in the spindle tool offset compensation system, typically occurring when the measured tool position does not match the expected position stored in offset memory. This alarm is commonly triggered during tool change operations, G43/G44 offset commands, or when the spindle position encoder detects inconsistencies with the programmed tool length offset values.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access the tool offset table (OFFSET SETTING screen) and verify all offset values are within reasonable range (typically +/- 999.999mm depending on machine). Check for obviously corrupted data like asterisks or excessive values.

  2. 2

Verify the G43/G44 command in the program references a valid tool offset number (H code) that exists in the offset table and corresponds to the actual tool being used.

  3. 3

Check parameter 5001-5032 (tool offset memory settings) to confirm offset memory allocation is correct and not corrupted. Backup and restore offset data if corruption is suspected.

Always backup offset data before modifying parameters or restoring from backup

  4. 4

Clear the alarm, cancel tool offset compensation (G49), manually move spindle to safe position, then re-execute the tool offset command with verified correct offset number.
