Fanuc Alarm 217 - DUPLICATE G51.2 COMMANDS
Fanuc Alarm 217 occurs when the CNC detects a second G51.2 (3D coordinate rotation) command while the system is already in G51.2 mode. This is a programming error where G51.2 was called without first canceling the previous coordinate rotation using G51.2 P0, creating a nested or duplicate rotation condition that is not permitted.

SYSTEM ALARM 217
Fanuc alarm 217: SYSTEM ALARM 217. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.
Root Cause Summary
Fanuc Alarm 217 occurs when the CNC detects a second G51.2 (3D coordinate rotation) command while the system is already in G51.2 mode. This is a programming error where G51.2 was called without first canceling the previous coordinate rotation using G51.2 P0, creating a nested or duplicate rotation condition that is not permitted.
Causes and Fixes
Review the active NC program at the alarm point. Check for multiple G51.2 commands without an intervening G51.2 P0 cancellation command.
Insert G51.2 P0 to cancel the first coordinate rotation before commanding the second G51.2. Ensure proper program structure: G51.2 > machining operations > G51.2 P0 > next G51.2 if needed.
Verify program logic does not use conditional jumps (GOTO, M99) that skip over G51.2 P0 cancellation commands, which would leave rotation mode active.
Reset the alarm, return to program start or safe position, and restart with corrected program. Verify coordinate system is reset using SYSTEM > CURRENT > WORK display.
