Fanuc 216 - Illegal command in superimposed control
Alarm 216 occurs when the CNC detects an incompatible or illegal G-code command while superimposed control (program restart or manual handle interrupt) is active. The control cannot execute certain commands like tool changes, subprogram calls, or specific G-codes during superimposed positioning because they conflict with the temporary coordinate system or interrupted state.

Root Cause Summary
Alarm 216 occurs when the CNC detects an incompatible or illegal G-code command while superimposed control (program restart or manual handle interrupt) is active. The control cannot execute certain commands like tool changes, subprogram calls, or specific G-codes during superimposed positioning because they conflict with the temporary coordinate system or interrupted state.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Check if superimposed control is active by verifying if RESTART SEARCH or MANUAL HANDLE INTERRUPT mode is engaged on the control panel.
Review the program line where the alarm occurred and identify if a tool change (T-code, M06) or restricted M-code (M98, M99, M198) is being executed.
Cancel the superimposed control mode by pressing RESET, then restart the program from a block before the tool change command.
Canceling superimposed control will lose the temporary coordinate offset. Ensure machine position is safe before resetting.
If program restart is needed near a tool change, restart from a block after the tool change has completed and coordinates are established.
